The seminar will discuss some of the recent results in two ongoing
research projects at RMIT University on UAV control. One project focuses
on the decentralised control of multiple UAVs. Operation of multiple
UAVs with a common objective, eg swarming or teaming, has a number if
interesting applications, eg in search and rescue, disaster monitoring
and remote sensing. It poses a number of interesting control questions
on how formations are maintained, changed and directed without collision.
Another aspect is the command structure to implement, eg should all
control functions be done on the ground or locally.
The second project will introduce a small UAV design that consists of a
duced-fan with a cross-tail and conventional control surfaces in the fan
exhaust. The UAV is intended a low-cost, easy to operate UAV for
reconnaissance and surveillance. Same results on control system design
using fuzzy logic will be presented.
