This presentation is an overview of the work done at the Composites & Smart Structures Laboratory, exemplified with the results from two recent European projects, BASSA and ARTIMA. The first one was recently finished, the second is at its middle of its three years length.
BASSA (Bonded Assisted Single Step Assembly) was active during 2002-2005. Main objective was to qualify the usage of RT cure adhesives for assembly structural aircraft components. Partners involved were Fokker, Sonaca, Gamesa, NLR, T.U.Delft and UPM. The UPM (Universidad Politecnica de Madrid) responsibility was modeling and testing adhesive joints in composite structures. Fibre Bragg Gratings and Laser extensometry was used at the experimental phase. A comparison of capabilities and results will be given.
ARTIMA (Aircraft Reliability Through Intelligent Materials Applications) is dealing with active and passive damping and different damage detection approaches. Current results and planned activities will be presented.
