The GCOE has chosen medical/welfare machinery, spacecraft and aircraft, automobiles, energy conversion machinery, and information equipment as the systems to be studied, extending the achievements of 21COE, and will carry out the following activities to enable the creation of innovative mechanical systems that utilize macro-phenomena controlled by nanoscale phenomena: (1) establishment of academic disciplines in the "extended nanospace," (2) establishment of fundamental technologies for innovative mechanical systems, and (3) establishment of design synthesis methods for innovative mechanical systems.
