■Overview
Summer camp is for program research assistants and invited graduate students from overseas. Research assistants have an opportunity to improve their English discussion and international communication skills and to build an international network with fellow young researchers. In addition, the camp aims to broaden research views and nurture leadership capacity. Summer camp is positioned as a major activity of the program.

Details were discussed and preparations made from 2008. Below are the details of the first camp.
General Information

Date: July 29 to August 1, 2009 (3 Nights/4 Days)
Place: NASPA New Otani (Echigo Yuzawa, Niigata)
Participants: 75 graduate students
In addition, there was a management staff of nine people that included two program members, four specially appointed members, one education leader, and two secretariat personnel. Two program members served as lecturers (excluding Project Leader Professor Mitsuishi who also served on the management staff). Graduate school students from top-ranked universities overseas were invited, and the mix of participants was roughly equally balanced between overseas invited students, Japanese research assistants, and exchange student research assistants.
